How does Valued Directions Occupational Therapy support individuals with mental health conditions or psychosocial disability?
Occupational Therapists are goal-directed rehabilitation professionals who work with people to address the functional implications of disability and promote health and wellbeing through occupation (activity).
Valued Directions Occupational Therapy can assist you to:
- Better understand and self-manage your condition
- Identify your values and goals
- Develop skills and strategies to cope
- Learn emotion regulation skills
- Improve sleep habits
- Make safety plans and relapse prevention plans
- Develop skills to live more independently in the community, including daily living skills and transport training
- Become more active - both socially and physically
- Develop helpful daily routines, considering a balance of self-care, productivity and leisure
- Explore and take on new roles or reconnect with valued roles from the past
- Return to work or explore other vocational options
- Improve relationships and develop new ones
- Improve interpersonal effectiveness skills
- Link in with community groups and agencies
- Complete NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments, plan reviews and reports
Susan works with people to develop a care plan to meet their goals. The plan will be regularly reviewed with them (and their support team if applicable) to make sure the intervention is meeting their needs.

ASSESSMENTS
How do you assist to identify a person’s goals and support needs?
Valued Directions Occupational Therapy uses standardised assessments, observation of everyday tasks and conversation to identify personal strengths and difficulties and priorities for support and capacity-building. Professional recommendations are provided and refined in collaboration with the person and their support team.
